Music Director’s Report

Student leadership conference on June 17-18 went well. During WHS choir camp last week, the students that attended the leadership conference showed evidence of the skills they learned. Though there will still be safety protocols in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19, things do feel like they are getting back to normal for the upcoming school year. Elementary music staffing is yet to be determined based on the number of families who choose the virtual school option. Secondary music staffing is set. $78,000 of music equipment was purchased through district bond funds during the summer.

Vice President’s Report

No report.

Treasurer’s Report

There was $4700 in the account at the end of the school year. The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation endowment distribution came in last week. In light of the lack of fundraising opportunities in the past year and a half, we will keep the money in our account for now. If we are in a good financial position later in the year, we can transfer the distribution back to our endowment at the Community Foundation. No additional donations have come in this summer. An individual giving strategy was discussed, as well as possible sponsorships for the Music Boosters Benefit Concert, but no action plans were put in place. A proposed budget was shared with the board.

TCC and TCW updates

West Choir Parents- Choir camp went well. The organization is gearing up for the start of the school year. Updates and additional information are being added to the West CPO website (www.tcwestchoirs.com). The hope is that district wide opportunities will be shared and promoted in order to support music programs on both sides of town.

Central Choir Parents- Choir camp is scheduled for 8/25. A Choral Aires retreat was scheduled for the weekend of 8/14.

Old Business

2021 Used Instrument Sale- Scheduled for Saturday, September 11 at West Middle School. Kevin Smiley is chairing the used instrument sale this year.

Scholarship Updates- No update.

MiniGrant Updates- All 2020-2021 MiniGrants have been paid. No further update.

August 24 Social Gathering- After discussion, the board decided that this doesn’t feel like the right time for a social gathering due to increased Covid-19 cases and lack of fundraising opportunities for the past 18 months. It was noted that the social gathering was an important opportunity for making connections and welcoming new Music Boosters. A spring 2022 gathering will be explored.

Annual Meeting- The meeting will be held on September 30 at 7:00pm at CHS.

New Business- No new business to report

Open Forum

The next regular Music Boosters Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16 at 6:30 at the Boardman Administration Building.
